Week 1 - 3 Systems/Themes

1. DEGENERATION - Osteoporosis

Bones are the scaffolding of the human body. They are composed of a matrix of calcium salts deposited around protein fibers. In adults, it is in a continuous cycle of breaking down and rebuilding. When the body loses calcium more quickly that it can be replaced, it leads to a loss of bone density. Starting with a more complex network it is interesting to break it down and thereby make something have greater clarity of its structure whilst minimising the support system.

2. PARASITIC - Cancer

In contention to degeneration, is an appendage which is caused by abnormal and uncontrolled cell growth. One of the most common forms of this is a cancer. These formations are interesting from the aspect of random mutation and multiplication, increasing and changing the original form.

3. AFRICAN FRACTALS
It is interesting to note that africans were using fractal geometry in many of their designs, from architecture to material and jewelry patterns. Somehow these have an innate aesthetic to cause them to design in this manner. These patterns are interesting as they follow a simpler form yet can create quite complex and interesting iterations.
